Our workplace
The Environment and Energy Agency of Iceland is at the core of environmental and energy matters in Iceland. The agency plays a key role in the governance of these issues, in addition to working on energy efficiency and ensuring the quality of the environment.
We place strong emphasis on creating a project-driven work environment that supports cooperation and continuous improvement.
Our operations are based in five locations across the country:
- Akureyri – headquarters
- Egilsstaðir
- Hvanneyri
- Reykjavík
- Selfoss

The Environment and Energy Agency offers flexible working hours with a 36-hour work week and the possibility of remote work 1–2 days per week for most positions. We want our staff to be able to manage their tasks well during the day while also supporting a family-friendly and individual-friendly lifestyle outside of work.
Health and well-being are close to our heart, and we want to promote good mental and physical health for all, in addition to offering sports grants for our employees.
We are proud to be an environmentally friendly workplace, certified with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, ISO 14001 environmental management, and as participants in the Green Steps program. Our environmentally friendly lifestyle is also supported by a wide selection in our cafeteria from Suðurlandsbraut and by transportation agreements that encourage staff to travel in an eco-friendly way.
Our people are the foundation of our success. We want to be a desirable workplace where competence grows and employees thrive.
We are about one hundred people working in the agency and share a strong commitment to environmental and energy issues. We want our staff to feel that their work is important and contributes to society at all levels.
In addition, we strive to be a family-friendly workplace and support flexible working arrangements for our employees.
